Mr. Annan, who held the position of the secretary general between the years of 1997 and 2006 before gracefully stepping down, is dead at the age of 80.

Koffi Annan was one of the brightest and most influential diplomats out of Africa in the 20th century where, as one of the high points in his career, in collaboration with the UN, he won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 and set the pace for most of the UN’s on peacekeeping in the world today.

His tenure was by no means rosy as he suffered setbacks and scandals but managed to retain his reputation as a man of unwavering morals and integrity, adding his voice to the greater chorus of reason and efforts at maintaining peace even after his works with the UN was done.
