VP Osinbajo Receives Girls Who Won Silicon Valley Contest
After their widely acclaimed victory in Silicon Valley, California for creating a mobile app that detects fake drugs by scanning its barcode and verifying expiry dates, the five girls from Onitsha: Promise Nnalue, Jessica Osita, Nwabuaku Ossai, Adaeze Onuigbo and Vivian Okoye, have been received by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa in Abuja as announced through his Instagram handle.
The girls, who attend Regina Pacis Model Secondary School, Onitsha, in addition to creating a pragmatic tool structured towards making life in Nigeria that much better, also won a prize of $10,000 after beating out teams from countries like the US, Spain and China.
In the reception which was attended by a host of dignitaries including the deputy governor of Anambra State, Nkem Okeke; the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha to mention a few, recognition was given to their innovation by NAFDAC who through a representative, committed to working with the girls (code-named “Team Save A Soul”) to taking their idea even further while the federal and state governments made commitments to furthering development of education and technology in the country to promote innovation amongst youths.
